Seeds are regularly distributed as part of Oxfam’s livelihoods programmes to help recipients to generate their own food, diversify their crops and establish a source of income.

“In the past we used to hear on the radio how people can benefit from farming, but we didn’t know it would be us. Since starting on the scheme this has become reality,” says Doris Laja (pictured left). With Oxfam's support this community in Mnembo, Malawi has managed to transform their traditional small low-yield crops into year-round, high volume harvests that provide continuous food and income. Since then many families have been able to triple their harvests.
